Frequently asked questions.

This is my first time, how does it work?

On arrival you will need to sign a participation waiver in order to begin climbing. We provide hire harnesses, shoes and chalk bag (at an additional cost). If you do not know how to belay (hold the ropes for the climber) that is ok, one of our trained staff will give you a demonstration.

Do I need to bring someone with me?

If you are ‘bouldering’ you do not need to bring a partner as no ropes/equipment is required. If you intend on climbing ‘top rope’ (all the way to the roof) you will need a partner in order to belay (hold the ropes) for you.

How old do you need to be to belay (hold the ropes)?

13 years old and above.

Is there an age limit to climb (e.g. Can my 6-year-old child climb)?

Around 4-5 years old, and it is based on the climber’s ability/confidence (i.e. whether they are able to climb up the wall or not).

Is there a time limit?

No, all entries are counted as daily passes, except during time limited events such as birthday parties, school sports, classes and group bookings.

Is there Parking?

Yes, we have ‘Rock House Reserved’ parking.

What are the ‘caves/tunnels’?

It is a series of tunnels at the back of the gym where participants crawl through with glowsticks. It takes approximately 5-10 minutes. The tunnel only goes on one direction therefore the participant cannot get lost.

How are the climbs graded in difficulty?

Climbs are graded using the Ewbank system. Climbs are graded by numbers, the higher the number the harder the climb is E .g. 10-12 = Medium 13-15 = Medium/Hard 16-19 = Hard 20-23 = Very Hard 23+ = Desperate

Can I Lead Climb?

Yes. If it’s your first time, you will first need to check in at the front desk for a Lead Assessment by one of our staff and have your own gear (e.g. climbing rope, harness, ATC, etc – all in good condition). Lead Climbers must collect an in house Lead Pass before climbing and display it at all times on their harness while in the gym.

How do I get Lead Assessed?

On arrival you will need to sign a participation waiver (if you have not already done so) and inform our staff that you wish to be assessed. When one of our lead qualified staff is available you will be taken to the lead area and begin the assessment. You will be graded on gear quality, communication, ability to set up your own gear, as well as climbing. You can be assessed for climbing and/or belaying. Our instructors will be able to assist beforehand/after in giving instructions/tips, but will be unable to do so during the assessment. The instructors will only interfere during the assessment if they believe you must stop the assessment due to your own safety/the safety of others around you.

Do you sell gear?

Yes. We have a Pro Gear Shop inside the climbing facility which sells items ranging from shoes, harnesses, chalk bags, chalk, ropes, slings and carabiners. Please see our full Pro Gear Shop Returns Policy here
