Route Setting

It’s been a great couple of weeks on the Rockhouse route-setting front. The main overhangs on the tall side of the gym are completed (bar one route – the blue holds on the far RHS which will again be grade:Desperate ) and by all accounts the new routes do suitable credit to the steepest, coolest section of top-roping in the gym. Other than the Yellow route on Rp 28 (photographed in the previous report with Rob styling the lower section) standouts include the Green jugs (grade: Hard) and the ‘other’ Yellow route (grade:Very Hard) both on Rp 26. Featuring athletic, pumpy climbing on proper sized holds these routes pack a whole lot of climbing and, in the case of the Yellow, hits you with a complete change of pace and style within spitting distance of the victory hold.

In the lead area too there are new routes on Black holds. Featuring a common start the routes branch at about the 4th clip with the left-hand (grade 21) line busting straight up to and through the roof, swinging and heal-hooking onwards on great big holds to finish next the top-rope anchor while the RH (grade 23) line traverses all the way across the very steep wall above the bouldering wall. Mega Fun.

Pictured below is lovely Sanaz crushing the burly move at the lip of the roof: Black holds, Rp 27.
