Tour de Corde / Lead Ladder Summary

Juniors/Youth 2:00 – 4:00
Adult/Pumper 5:00 – 7:30
During the competition window you make as many attempts on competition top-rope routes as you like and count your best 8 except for Pumpers for whom every valid ascent counts toward their score.
$20.00 p/entry

Lead Ladder starts 2:00pm (and ends 10.00pm Thursday 1st May)
Attempt 10 lead routes of varying difficulty as many times as you wish – each route is worth 20pts for a flash, 15 for 2nd shot ascents and so on. You will not be allowed to work routes (ie: you need to descend to the floor after each fall).
$2.00 p/score sheet + applicable Gym entry

All competitors must be members of SCA.

Food: last year we experimented with Nachos… what do you think we've got lined up for this year at a mere $4.00 p/serve?

This time next week The rockhouse will be a'fire with awesome, talented, beautiful climbers from across Sydney and surrounds all competeing in Rd 3 of the 2014 Tour de Corde.

Every top-rope route in the gym (more-or-less) will be given a score – climb as much as you like, attempt things as many times as you like and count your best eight scores.

Youth and Junior Climbers climb from 2.00 until 4.00 while Adult climbers have 2 and 1/2 hours from 5.00 until 7.30.

Kicking off at the same time will be The Rockhouse round of the Sydney Lead Ladder, a new competition that offers competitors 3 weekends to climb 10 selected lead routes at each participating gym. The fewer attempts p/route, the higher the score attained.

Adult Training and Conditioning Squad

Following the success of last years Adult Squad we will run this program twice this year. The first 12 week squad will begin on Wednesday 12th March and then again through Spring. The group is limited to 12 participants and will meet twice a week on Mondays and Wednesday evenings. The Wednesday evening session will be led by Phil and will have a strong focus on conditioning rather than outright climbing. During the first half hour Phil will be available to help with your climbing projects, whether routes or boulder problems after which we will spend the very best part of 90mins working through circuit based training and strengthening exercises with an emphasis on shoulder and upper body strength.

The group is also encouraged to meet on Monday evenings and a program will be offered which will be focused more on core strength and stability. On Monday evening the group will train unsupervised.

Our Adult Training Squad is suitable for anyone with a year or more of climbing experience however some broad strength prerequisites apply:
– you should be regularly attempting grade:Hard routes or Yellow tagged boulder problems (with at least some successes);
– able to hang from the jugs of the fingerboard for at least 20 secs;
– able to hang from the jugs of the fingerboard and at least get close to completing a chin-up or two (you will have a partner to assist with this kind of exercise but don't be fooled into thinking that chin-up variations won't be a significant part of what we'll be doing);
– able to hang from the jugs of the fingerboard and complete at least 5 knee-lifts;
– be physically fit and not have any injuries or disabilities that that would prevent you from safely completing relatively intense upper body and core training.

We have had a lot of interest in this program and priority will be given to those who have pre-registered their enthusiasm. As always, more details are available from Rockhouse staff or you can leave your details and have Phil contact you.

A few people might have been a little disappointed to see that the boulder wall wasn't finished off this week. The reason is simple – Phil was reminded of the continuing advancement of years. All good now though and the wall will get some problems at the top of the various grade ranges next week to make up for the soft-touches that crept in last week.
