In addition to Min's new routes on Rp 8 and Phils work on Rps 22 & 23 we have also added a couple of "steps" underneath the finger-boards.You could use these new steps (or rungs) in a couple of basic ways:
– Rest one or both your feet on a step and do your chin-ups – they will be easier and the orientation of your body will be changed from pulling "down" to pulling "in",
– Use them as targets for your feet… start from a hang and kick one leg to a particular position on a particular rung, hold the position for a moment or two then return to the hang and kick the other foot too to opposite position (it can be good to have a partner call out the positions for you).

We are in interested to know if the two rungs are sufficient or whether the slightly less lengthy people would like a third one a bit closer in. Please let us know.

This is awesome, a master-class in roof climbing. Throughout the middle section of the roof keep an eye on her (Hannah's…) feet and try to imagine the strength and (importantly) the co-ordination required to keep her hips "up" and core tension engaged. And then in the last part of the roof she demonstrates her flexibility too as she squeezes her feet between two very spaced features, again, all to maintain control of her hips.

(Also interesting to note that in the first sequence she tries to use a right heel-hook but is not tall enough to extend from it to the next handhold. In the second sequence she has changed the beta to a right toe which is much more strenuous but gives her a little extra reach).

Go Girl!

Our good friend Nick Fletcher has brought his gymnastics rings to live at The Rockhouse. We have put nice slings on them and recommend them in preference to our Rock Rings for "Pushing" type exercises where the string and carabiner suspension on R'Rings tends to bite at your forearms.

Here a local chump demonstrates
1/ Push-up on Rings and
2/ Dips from Rings.

We'll offer a few more suggestions next week. Please feel free to ask for the Rings (which are stored behind the front desk) but please be careful and please DON'T try to do an Iron Cross unless you've had formal gym training – too many people end up in hospital having their biceps re-attached.

Incidentally, Mr Fletcher is quite the photographer. Check out a selection of his work at:
