We had a flying visit today from Australian (well, NZ actually but he lives here now) climbing photographer to the stars Eddie Fowke.

Eddie has spent the last couple of years traveling with the World Cup Boulder circuit, photographing and interviewing climbers at the events as well as in between when some of the worlds best climbing athletes get out on the rocks and "play". Last year he published the first edition of "The Circuit", an annual magazine dedicated to the climbers and the competitions of the Bouldering World Cup and the big news this week is that for the 2015 bouldering competition season Eddie will be the Official IFSC photographer, quite a coup for a series of events so entrenched in the northern hemisphere.

Congratulations Eddie.

What's new at The Rockhouse this week?
A bit of everything, actually.
Three rather classy new routes on Rp 28 (if we do say so ourselves) – one each at Hard, Very Hard and Desperate should keep all our overhang aficionados entertained. And there's a new jug-haul in the lead section on Purple holds (grade 20) to go with last weeks 24 (soft 24?) on Yellow holds AND there are new boulder problems also on Yellow holds. And then tomorrow Min will weaver her magic on Rp 5 for some gentler graded plums as well.
So if life seems a bit same-same this week, come down to Northern Beaches Rockhouse where just about everything is sparkling and fresh.

What could be better than listening to people talking about climbing, except perhaps talking about climbing yourself or maybe actually… climbing? But still – listening to luminaries discussing their values and goals and achievements is pretty interesting – to me. The Enormocast is a US based climbing podcast which ticks a lot of boxes but I was wondering recently whether it was relevant to the majority of Rockhouse-ers. After all, if you haven’t been climbing for decades and if you don’t live in America or at least keep up American climbing news… well, perhaps there is a bit of a disconnect.

In the end, with a few exceptions, I decided not to over-plug Enormcast. Then I listened to this episode. It’s wonderful – such a human perspective on the climbing lifestyle – a real and honest account of one man’s relationship to a mountain and to climbing in general. It’s an hour long but I (personally) regret not a moment of it.

This is a nice way to finish the Dawn Wall saga. Tommy and Kevin have come back to earth, they've finished their chat with Prez Obama so naturally it's time to sit down with Ellen and her derrière shaped coffee table (and shamelessly plug a prominent on-demand media provider).

Bringing big-wall free climbing to the people!

Great new routes this week on the left of the main overhang ropes (Michelle pictured here romping up the Purple Med/Hard) and in the very popular corner system to the left. Min has also been hard at work on Rp 7 on the other side of the gym.
There's something new for everyone, from techy stemming problem solving to steep jug hauling (although not necessarily on outright jugs if you choose the new Desperate graded route which is almost invisible in the photo, the holds being that small…).
Enjoy.
